New Crops & Products

One of the most enjoyable parts of my work is looking for new crops that can add value and diversity to the food supply chain, and over the past few years I have been hard at work developing Musu庐 black barley and Piro庐 red wheat, as well as a few other more niche crops. My aims here are to create healthy and British-grown alternatives to聽 imported food crops, it’s very interesting trying to source different types of seed and just seeing how they grow!

I’m hoping to target the Musu庐 black barley towards the freshly prepared salads market as a cooked grain (think Musu庐 black barley Risotto as an example), and both the Musu庐 black barley and Piro庐 red wheat towards the cereal market as a beautiful looking flake. We’ve had a very successful 40mt harvest of the Musu庐 black barley this year, and although it’s very early days so far, I’m certainly going to continue my work on them to see if I can make a success of it.
